Comparative numerical study of Anderson localisation in disordered electron systems

چکیده
Taking into account that a proper description of disordered systems should focus on distribution functions, the authors develop a powerful numerical scheme for the determination of the probability distribution of the local density of states (LDOS), which is based on a Chebyshev expansion with kernel polynomial refinement and allows the study of large finite clusters (up to 100). For the threedimensional Anderson model it is demonstrated that the distribution of the LDOS shows a significant change at the disorder induced delocalisation-localisation transition. Consequently, the so-called typical density of states, defined as the geometric mean of the LDOS, emerges as a natural order parameter. The calculation of the phase diagram of the Anderson model proves the efficiency and reliability of the proposed approach in comparison to other localisation criteria, which rely, e.g., on the decay of the wavefunction or the inverse participation number.

Stochastic Green’s function approach to disordered systems
Based on distributions of local Green’s functions we present a stochastic approach to disordered systems. Specifically we address Anderson localisation and cluster effects in binary alloys. Taking Anderson localisation of Holstein polarons as an example we discuss how this stochastic approach can be used for the investigation of interacting disordered systems.
متن کاملAnderson universality in a model of disordered phonons
We consider the localisation properties of a lattice of coupled masses and springs with random mass and spring constant values. We establish the full phase diagrams of the system for pure mass and pure spring disorder. The phase diagrams exhibit regions of stable as well as unstable wave modes. The latter are of interest for the instantaneous-normal-mode spectra of liquids and the nascent field...

In recent years, semiconductor nanostructures have become the model systems of choice for investigation of electrical conduction on short length scales. Quantum transport is studied in a two dimensional electron gas because of the combination of a large Fermi wavelength and large mean free path. In the present work, a numerical method is implemented in order to contribute to the understanding ...
متن کاملA Simple Interpretation of Electron Localisation Behaviour in Weakly Disordered Systems
A simple relation between the local energy spectrum and the time evolution of a wavepacket diffusing in a disordered system is discussed. In conjunction with Polya's theorem for random walks, this relation implies an electron local density of states which in one and two dimensions is not square integrable over energy. Such a local density of states is infinitely spiky however weak the disorder....
متن کاملA perturbative study of delocalisation transition in one-dimensional models with long-range correlated disorder
We study the delocalisation transition which takes places in onedimensional disordered systems when the random potential exhibits specific long-range correlations. We consider the case of weak disorder; using a systematic perturbative approach, we show how the delocalisation transition brings about a change of the scaling law of the inverse localisation length which ceases to be a quadratic fun...
